So I don’t know about you guys but I have the worst time with my hair! It’s curly, dry, frizzy, it grows slow and the ends are split! Winter is almost over here in New York and my hair and scalp are drier than ever! I was looking up how to get rid of dark under eye circles on YouTube and fell down the rabbit hole of beauty DIY videos – I landed on a beauty vlogger anitasamantha and started watching as many of her videos as I could! One of the DIY videos from her I found was how to grow longer thicker hair. Okay, I’ll bite. Upon watching the video I also found the treatment works well for dry and damaged hair and was good for your scalp. Seeing how these were all my problem areas I decided to try it out!
Step # one – Ingredients
There are two ingredients for this treatment and both are common household ingredients so the likelihood you have them already are pretty high. I had them, coconut oil and olive oil. In a small mixing bowl you mix together two tablespoons of each oil. The measurement can change depending on the length of your hair, you might need less or more also if your hair is super dry you might want more. In the video she used one tablespoon of each ingredient and her hair is longer than mine but I wanted to make sure I was able to cover my hair really well because it’s so dry – if you can picture straw you can picture my hair!
Steph # two – Getting started
Head to the bathroom, this could get messy! I also should mention your going to want to put on an old shirt you won’t mind if you got an oil stain on. Start by brushing out your hair, the treatment will apply a lot easier if you don’t have a rats nest a top your head. I started at the top of my head with the oil putting some on my hand and working it into my scalp in a circular motion. In the video this circular motion that you use to massage the oil all over your scalp is one of the “techniques” anitasamantha states will help grow hair faster. Once you’ve finished your whole scalp this way you flip your head upside down and apply more oil, again using a circular massage on your scalp. This is the second “technique”. After you’ve covered your scalp this way it’s time to apply oil to the rest of your hair. Once I was finished I used my wide tooth comb to comb out my hair to make sure there were no knots and the oil was evenly distributed. Then I tied my hair up in a high bun!
Step # three – The waiting game
In the video she says to leave the oil on for a few hours or to sleep with it on your hair and to put a towel down on your pillow. I had nothing going on the day I did this so I decided to just leave it on for five to six hours and then shower. There are a lot of people out there that get five to six hours of sleep per night so it’s kind of like I slept with it on – that’s my thought process anyway. So you’ve got some time to kill and you can’t go out of the house because you look like a greased up mess, what do you do? Time to put on the TV and get a snack for starters! After some TV it might be time for dinner! Yeah I just watched TV and ate all day. What can ya do?
Step # 4 – Girl wash your hair!
At this point you’re probably pretty ready to wash your hair! You might have to wash it three or four times to get all that oil out and trust me, you want to get it all out! If you leave some in you will look like you haven’t washed your hair in a week and a half and I’m pretty sure that’s no longer a look. Once your positive it’s all washed out, condition like normal and then rinse. Shower hack: I don’t know if you guys do this too but I started clipping my hair up after I condition it, it’s pretty life changing. You can wash your back free of hair and you don’t run the risk of accidentally washing your conditioner out early.
Final results …
You might not notice until your hair drys but your hair will look so much healthier! I plan on doing this once a week or every other week as my hair really needs it!
As always, thanks for reading!
