I’ve been on a long journey to go full clean beauty. It’s not always realistic to only use clean beauty products. It can take a long time to find the right product that works for you, where the price is right and it’s readily available to you. Ahem, clean deodorant! Sometimes it’s just not a good time to smell like B.O.! It’s also challenging for me to find clean hair products with my naturally curly hair. Here is what I found, clean and not as clean, this year for beauty and a few household and personal items, that I love!
I’ve tried a lot of skincare in 2019! I wrote an extensive blog about my review of the Drunk Elephant line. I also tried a LOT of other skincare products, clean as well as drug store beauty. Of the Drunk Elephant line, my 2019 pick would be the A-Passioni Retinol Cream which retails for $74. I think this product works great, I love how the product has a facial oil additive so your skin doesn’t get too dried out.
Here are some other 2019 skincare picks.
Before using the Ursa Major face wash I was using a drug store brand, that was completely drying my skin out and messing with my skins moisture barrier and I think in return creating more oil. The Ursa Major face wash doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight and dry after using it and is starting to clear up my breakouts! I love the Good Molecules peptide serum along with the Ursa Major face balm, which has vitamin A in it. This combo works great and takes the place of a few facial products which saves money and space! I love this cleansing balm, it works great and rinses clean and it’s affordable! I also love this night mask! I wake up with bright, moisturized, healthy looking skin! My skincare basket still looks full as I am working on using up products – I don’t want to be wasteful. My goal however is to have a much smaller, minimalistic skincare routine that works everyday!
I tried Function of Beauty and I loved it! It’s an amazing company that trailers your products to you! You essentially make your own shampoo and conditioner – it’s so cool! They now also make a leave in treatment, hair mask and hair serum. The company is 100% clean beauty, vegan, sustainable and there is no animal testing! I will most likely change my conditioner formula a bit for my re-purchase as this one has a minty smell that I don’t really like and it over powers the floral sent that I picked, but I love this product! You could say it’s a little pricey at $49 for the largest size, 16 oz for just one bottle. I got 8 oz bottles though for $39 and they lasted about four months.
As far as hair styling goes, I haven’t looked too much into these two products, but I am sure they are not clean beauty! I love Deva Curl Super Cream Coconut Curl Styler! It works amazingly, it’s so conditioning and smells great! At $28 a bottle the price point is pretty good as well! I also love the Aveda flax seed aloe strong hold sculpting gel for $22 a bottle. This bottle has lasted me a LONG time! I haven’t even used half yet and I’ve been using it for four months! I use this in place of hair spray, which I love because hair spray is annoying and gets my bathroom floor all sticky! Both of these brands have some good clean, healthy ingredients and they don’t have some of the really harsh chemicals that other products have, but they are not 100% clean beauty. The brush in the photo is the Denman brush. I purchased this on Amazon for $12.99, a reasonable price for the huge difference it makes! I use this brush to brush the product evenly through my curls before I scrunch them and it gives my curls amazing definition!
It wasn’t the biggest year for makeup. I usually shoot for clean looking beautiful skin and a natural look anyways. I lucked out with a few products though!
I have slowly been trying out this company, Thrive Cosmetics. They are a clean beauty company that does a lot of charitable work as well! I love this Mascara! It’s a tubing mascara, which I just found out about this year. It looks amazing but more importantly (to me anyways,) it washes off SUPER easily! All you do it wet your lashes in warm water and lightly pull the mascara off and it slides right off! It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t make a mess and your not left with raccoon eyes! If it wasn’t for this product, I wouldn’t bother with mascara, so this is huge for me! I also got the Brilliant Eye Brightener in Champagne Shimmer. I love this product, I use it to define my brows and I also apply it in the corners of my eyes. I’m excited to try some more Thrive products in 2020!
I also found Glossier this year! The information I’ve found on whether or not this company is a clean beauty company is very vague – I love this product though! It’s honestly flavored and tinted Vaseline but it is in such an easy to use tube and I love the flavors! My lips feel so conditioned and it’s not like chap stick when you feel like you need to keep applying the product because your lips feel dry as soon as the product is gone. It’s $12 a tube, I got these three for their $36 package, which really there is NO deal there, $12 x 3 is $36! I love the product though, what can ya do?! Vaseline should just take this tube idea and up their flavor game!
I love this toothpaste! It is a clean product, 100%, it whitens my teeth better than any other toothpaste I’ve tried and I don’t get that gross white film stuff on my mouth. I know you know what I am talking about! I get this on amazon, a pack of three is $12.95 – not too bad, and Gus loves it too!
I’ve been using the Ritual Essential for Women’s vitamins for three months now. They mail you your vitamins automatically each month which I love because I don’t have to remember to re-order them and I never run out! It’s $30 per month which is pretty comparable to the Garden of Life vitamins I was taking. I love how these vitamins have just what you need and not extra stuff you don’t need and I love that the pill design is made for perfect absorption. It’s also all natural and 100% vegan. I honestly do notice a difference in my energy levels!
I wrote a full blog post on this CBD oil but also need to mention it briefly here as it’s definitely one of my favorite finds of 2019!
Lastly I’ve been loving these metal reusable straws made from Ello. They are BPA free and they help save the turtles! Can’t hate that! I got these for $9.99 at Target.
Thanks for reading and here’s to a great product year for 2020! If you have any suggestions for clean beauty foundations or powders for a combination skin girl like me, let me know!
